Die erste Show, die erste Platte und seine größten Einflüsse! Wir sprachen mit World Demise Sänger Greg Falchetto über seine Hardcore-Punk Roots und wie er zur Musik und Szene gekommen ist.

1Do you remember the first hardcore / punk show you went to? Is the club still open today?

My first “real” hardcore punk show was at the M & M hall in Old Bridge, NJ in the summer of 2000. My friend’s mom ran the hall and we would just go there to hang out and check out live music. But this was the first time I really went out of my way to attend a show and see specific bands play. The show was American Nightmare, Right Brigade, and a band from New Jersey called Down in Flames. Unfortunately, the place closed down in like 2003 however the building is still sitting there same way it has been for the past 15 years.

2What is your all-time favorite club or location?

Probably club Krome which was located in South Amboy, NJ. Growing up this was a place I got to see so many bands play at from punk to pop music. They had two rooms one was smaller and more intimate, the other was a bit bigger but still the right vibe and no barricades. I was literally there on what felt like a weekly basis. I was young and just excited to be experiencing music up close and personal. I joined the club’s street team and would hand out flyers in exchange for getting into the shows for free. Krome ended up closing down in 2004 which was a bummer but that motivated me to start booking more shows myself which was cool.

3Do you remember the first hardcore / punk record you got?

GlassJaw – Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. This was my introduction to aggressive music altogether in the late 90’s. An older head I respected told me to check them out and from first listen I was hooked. Remember reading through the lyrics over and over again completely fascinated with what I had discovered

4In your opinion what is the perfect hardcore show?

Something diverse! If I had to pick 5 bands I’d go with Glassjaw, Fury of Five, Death Threat, The Promise, and Renee Heartfelt. I would pay a lot of money to attend that show.

5What is your all-time favorite show you’ve played?

Probably Pressure Fest 2008 in Essen, Germany with my old band The Mongoloids. I remember it was in a Hockey arena and it being the biggest show we had played at the time. Got up on stage to start the set and people were already going off moshing. Honestly couldn’t believe anyone gave a shit. Really exciting stuff.

6Is there a show you missed in the past that still makes you angry that you could not be there?

Panic and Modern Life is War at the Westfield, NJ church. Was right after the first Modern Life is War 7” came out right before Panic stopped playing out.

7What band would you like to see again?

The Promise. I was in my teens and so enthusiastic about straight edge when they first started playing. Having them from a few hours away and constantly playing New Jersey meant the absolute world to me at the time. I was really able to connect with what they were singing about in their songs. True story one time I went directly from work at Best Buy (electronic store) to a Promise show and moshed in my work attire. Great times! True Till’ Death.

8Is there a person who has influenced you especially in hardcore / punk?

Stickman from Fury of Five. Dude does an interview like he’s cutting a wrestling promo. I mean really what more can you ask for?

9What are you top 3 hardcore-punk front men (women)?

  • Stickman from Fury of Five
  • Stickman from Fury of Five
  • Stickman from Fury of Five

10What is in your opinion the most underrated hardcore-punk band?

New Jersey’s own One 4 One. “I won’t lose” is a straight up PERFECT 7”! If you haven’t heard it I encourage you to check it out.

World Demise wird am 07. September 2018 ihr Deübt-EP über Demons Run Amok Entertainment veröffentlichen.
