1THE STOOGES – FUN HOUSE

This album is nothing short of a master piece, largely unnoticed when it was first released its now considered a pivotal record in the history of punk rock. Recorded in 1970 and set the tone for that decade, such a dangerous Rock’n’Roll record. The first 4 songs for me is the holy grail with the Asheton brothers in full flight. This is the Stooges!!!

2RADIO BIRDMAN – RADIOS APPEAR

One of Australia’s fore fathers of proto punk rock but are definitely a Rock’n’Roll band through and through. Each song has its own edge and are now considered anthems in any live venue in Australia. It’s hard at times to measure the influence and impact this band has had on the live Australian music scene but it’s fair to say the legacy of Radio Birdman lives on. Plus I got to hold Fred Sonic smiths’ guitar once after a show!!!

3MC5 – BACK IN THE USA

Not the best recorded album but it’s the MC5 at its finest, the twin Guitar attack of Fred Sonic Smith and Wayne Kramer paved the way for so many high energy Rock’n’Roll bands today. Kicks off with a Little Richard cover and finishes with one by Chuck Berry!!! Hoochee Mumma 4. TYRANOSOURAS HIVES, THE HIVES- A modern classic, so many great songs on this album, can’t fault it. Abra Cadaver, walk idiot walk, B- for brutas, Antidote all amazing songs. Even better live!!!

4AC/DC – HIGHWAY TO HELL

If you want to start a bar fight with AC/DC fans then ask them with is better Powerage or Highway to hell. You really shouldn’t have to choose but I must say if Angus’s guitar work on Powerage is untouchable then Highway truly is Bon’s album for vocals. One of if not the best Rock’n’Roll front men in the history of rock period, but its he’s vocal delivery that’s the master piece of this record. Flawless

5STIFF RICHARDS – DIG

A local band from my home town who in my opinion are playing one of the best brands of garage Rock’n’Roll on the planet, if your reading this now please drop everything and listen to them. They have just released a new album which is almost even better.

6TUMBLEWEED – GALACTAPHONIC

I grew up in Wollongong, NSW Australia and this band were and still are the reason I wanted to play Rock’n’Roll. So many great songs delivered in a truly unique sound that is unmistakably Tumbleweed. It’s like the Ramones meets the heavier side of Led Zeppelin. You gotta listen to the groove to truly get lost in it.

7THE HELLACOPTERS – DISSAPOINTMENT BLUES

I brought this as a cd in 2001 and it changed my life, wall to wall high energy rock,n,roll that I think set the blue print for the next two albums. It’s only an EP but what a banger, out on now defunct label White Jazz. Long Gone Losers is a stunning rock,n,roll song.

8JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION – EXTRA WIDTH

Kicks off with Afro which is a groovy funky number with Russell Simmins truly the master of the beat. A cult band with a cult of fans to match including me. So many great tracks and the blues really is number one!!!

9TURBONEGRO – PARTY ANIMALS

You can’t have a top ten without Turbonegro, Scandinavian death punk anti-heroes singing songs about Ass and Pizza. I saw this albums tour with Hank and Pol Pot. The production on Party Animals is sublime and Euro boy’s guitar work amazing. Ass Cobra and Scandinavian leather are earlier master pieces but this is where I became a true turbo fan.
