1How did you get in touch with hardcore (music)?

My older brother gave his copies of Green Day’s Dookie & The Offspring’s Smash to me when I was 6 years old. I still can’t believe my parents let me run around the house singing songs with the F-word in them.

2Who influenced/inspired you most?

My older brother and my friend’s older brothers probably had the biggest influence, in that they gave us a bunch of music to listen to. I discovered most bands this way.

As far as artists, a few late 90s punk bands/albums pretty much shaped what I loved today: Jawbreaker, Alkaline Trio, The Get Up Kids, Thrice.

3Tell us about your first/best show you’ve ever played!

The first show I played was with a screamo band called Our Hearts Collide haha. We were terrible. It was during the era when it was cool to have a singer/guitarist (me) and someone who only screamed. We didn’t do it very well. And the 5 people who watched us at a house show didn’t think so either.

The best show I’ve ever played was also a house show with Spanish Love Songs, at a venue called Le Trou in Switzerland. It was the day after Trump was elected our president, and between our energy and the kids that showed up, we tore that attic apart. It was one of the best experiences of my life.

4Tell us about your first/favourite hardcore record!

The first hardcore record I ever bought myself was Thrice’s The Illusion of Safety, and it might still be my favorite to this day. It’s fast, but still melodic, the guitars shred, and the lyrics still resonate with me. That album really defined my early teens.
