1ZEKE – Kicked In The Teeth

I had never heard of ZEKE when I saw them open the Dynamo Open Air festival in 2000. Seen them quite a lot since and could have picked any other record as well, but ”kicked in the teeth” is the one that reminds me the most of that first time I saw them live.

2The Black Crowes – Shake Your Moneymaker

Southern rock perfection. Supposed to see them perform this album in its entirely in 2020 and then 2021 and now in 2022, but hé, who can tell? 😉

3Cock Sparrer – Shock Troops

Got into sparrer quite late, although I knew their song “running riot” from a compilation I owned when I was a teen. Strangely I got reintroduced to sparrer by a cover version of “England belongs to me”, first by Roger Miret & the Disasters and then by the Bouncing Souls. Looked up “shock troops” and been a fan ever since.

4Turbonegro – Apocalypse Dudes

Easiest one to pick for this top ten. As a turbojugend veteran (17 years and counting) these guys need to be in the list. In any list. Always. All killer tracks, but if I need to pick one it would always be “selfdestructo bust”. Hope Hank plays that song when my band get to open for him in may 2022.

5Rancid – …And Out Come The Wolves

The soundtrack of my highschool period. Had this album copied onto a cassette (Green Day – Dookie on the other side) and cycled (yeah I’m Dutch) back and forth to school every day on the sounds of the 11th hour, Roots Radicals, As wicked and all those other great songs. Good memories.

6Chuck Berry – Flashback

Old tyme rock ‘n roll is a must have in anybodies record collection in my opinion. Could’ve been an Elvis record or a Buddy Holly record in this list as well. Went with Chuck Berry because I”ve been listening to his song “Memphis Tennessee” a lot lately.

7The Marked Men – Fix My Brain

Title track “fix my brain” must be one of the best garagepunk songs ever written. If not thee best. Pop songs in disguise. Love it.

8The Gaslight Anthem – The ’59 Sound

One of the first dates I ever had with my then girlfriend was to go and see the Gaslight Anthem perfrom in the Melkweg in Amsterdam in 2010. I bought this album after that show.

My then girlfriend came to be my wife and we still spin this record a lot. We also went to see the band play this album in its entirely in Tilburg in 2018 and that must have been one of the best gigs I ever went to.

9Ramones – Rocket to Russia

The “Gabba Gabba Hey” tattooed in my neck gives it away I guess, but to be clear: massive ramones fan over here! Picked this album because my favourite ramones song is on the one, “teenage lobotomy”.

10Mean Jeans – Are You Serious?

The ultimate Saturday night party record! From “Born on a Saturday night”, to “Lets pogo before u gogo”, all killer no filler.
